Claudia Marinica

I am currently Assistant Professor at Polytech Nantes (computer science department), University of Nantes, and Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes (LS2N) research laboratory, Data User Knowledge (DUKe) team (starting September 2020).
Previously, I was Assistant Professor at CY Cergy Paris University, IUT of Cergy-Pontoise, Métiers du Multimédia et de l'Internet department, and Equipes Traitement de l'Information et Systèmes research laboratory (ETIS), MIDI team (2011-2020). I have joined the CY Cergy Paris University in 2011, after defending my PhD in 2010 in the LS2N Lab, Data DUKe team, Polytech Nantes, University of Nantes.
I carry out a fundamental and applied research activity, positioned in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI); I am interested in proposing new algorithms, models and methods, but also, in applied and validating them on real data in order to answer concrete problems.
In the Artificial Intelligence field, I carry out a fundamental research in (1) Data Science area, and more precisely I contribute in the field of data analysing when facing data under different forms (transactional, trajectories, graphs) by using Unsupervised Learning techniques, and in a classic environment or over a Cloud infrastructure, and in (2) Knowledge Representation area, and more precisely I am interested in Representation Models and Semantic Web Languages. In some of my works, I propose to bring together these two areas (data science and knowledge representation) by proposing new analysing algorithms that exploit the domain/experts knowledge usually expressed under the form of ontologies or other graph structures.
The contributions that I bring to the fundamental research are then applied to real data in order to solve concrete problems. I am working in collaboration with Cultural Institutions and thus my contributions are pplied on cultural heritage data. Moreover, I collaborate with Social Sciences colleages and my contributions are applied on Digital Humanities, and social data. My research activity is detailed in my Research page.
In 2018, I initiated the working group DAHLIA: DigitAl Humanities and cuLtural herItAge: management and analysis of data and knowledge and betwee, 2018 and 2020, I was an elected member of the direction Council of the Digital Hummanities Institute of the CY Cergy Paris University.

Research

Frequent pattern mining (frequent/unfrequent items) integrating user knowledge

Currently, I am working along 3 directions: (1) mining association rules based on disjunctive frequent patterns made up of unfrequent items that are semantically close, (2) mining frequent and homogeneous closed itemsets, and (3) mining frequent itemsets with vertical data layout in MapReduce.

Online Personal Networks Analysis

Here, I am studying the problem of predicting the state of an OPN at time t+1, knowing its state at all the previous $t$ timestamps for online personal networks. In order to tackle this problem, we make a comparative study of existing evolution models for OSNs, and we test their applicablility to OPNs on OPNs from the DBLP database (https://datahub.io/fr/dataset/dblp).

Knowledge management and extraction for Digital Heritage/Humanities

In the area of knowledge management and extraction for Digital Heritage, I work towards two directions: (1) build an ontological model to solve interoperability issues in cultural heritage area (PARCOURS and PatrimEph project funded by PATRIMA LabEx), and (2) study political discourse in Twitter.

Trajectory mining: taking into account complex environments (outdoor/indoor) and context/semantics

I propose models and analyzing algorithms for semantic trajectories in indoor environments. My first project was funded by PATRIMA LabEx and had as application the Louvre Museum
